If you have been arrested for a DUI/DWI and prosecution the following result may happen: you may loose your driver’s license, large fines, administrative and court costs, jail or state prison, probation, an ignition interlock device may be put on your car, vehicle impoundment or forfeiture, etc. New York State treats Driving While Intoxicated (“DWI”) (“DUI”) seriously. These laws are extremely strict.
New York DWI, DUI Laws besides the more legal consequences of having to deal with the police, the Department of Motor Vehicles (“DMV”), and the courts, there are other consequences that often result from a DWI/DUI arrest or conviction. DWI/DUI is a crime. A DWI/DUI conviction most likely will give you a permanent “criminal” record. It is possible that you could lose your job or may be prevented future employment. This especially applies if the job is a State job or is law enforcement associated, or involves driving. In the event you are a commercial driver, it is possible that you may lose your privilege to drive commercially for at least one year. A DWI/DUI conviction most often will cause your insurance rates to increase; insurance companies often cancel your coverage altogether. There are many other, “hidden” DWI / DUI penalties, depending on the charge, such as limitations on travel outside of the state or abroad. A DWI /DUI prosecution and conviction often mandates community service and substance abuse treatment.
